Greenberg describes his history prior to his work at Ezra Bessaroth, including: his early years and education in Des Moines, Kansas City, and Chicago; his activities as a U.S. Army Chaplain in Germany, 1953; and early pulpits, including Phoenix, Arizona. There he met Ben Genauer, who was a catalyst in Greenberg's move to Seattle. He then talks about his arrival at Ezra Bessaroth, adjusting to Sephardic services, and guidance he received from Rev. David Behar. He discusses in detail the state of the synagogue, the addition of a new sanctuary, the composition of the membership, and the joint Jewish school with Bikur Holim. He describes differences between the two Sephardic congregations. He mentions his involvement with the non-observant Jewish community. He also discusses conversions, mixed marriages, and the role returnees to Judaism play in the community. He gives the opinion that the community is shrinking overall, but he is encouraged but the increased involvement of young people. He mentions the active youth program and young men taking an interest in their heritage. Lastly, he tells of delivering the benediction at the 1979 University of Washington presidential inauguration for William Gerberding.
